THE FIVE BEST THINGS SAID IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE - EVER!!!! Part 1
January 12th 2007 13:23
Once more I'm without the time to make a proper post today (watching the cricket, you know), so instead I'm coming at you with more hyperbole. Recycled hyperbole, in fact. Here's the deal - a few posts ago I declared several bits of dialogue from Fantastic Four #6 to be among the five best things in the English language, ever. They, and others that fit in the top five, must be preserved for prosperity and the good of all! And now, the list, in no particular order:
#1. DOCTOR DOOM: "Never fear! I am strong -- strong enough to join the powers of science to those of darkness! Show me the puny mortal who does not tremble at the name of Doctor Doom!"
(from Fantastic Four #6)
#2. DOCTOR DOOM (to Namor): "Imagine -- your great and proud people -- struggling for thousands of years, defeating all the terrors of the deep to build a civilization superb and beautiful... Yes, beautiful and glowing with life... Until that last terrifying moment... When that monster of a bomb lodged in the midst of that beauty... Gone! All that glorious history gone in one brief instant! Replaced by an ugly crater in the ocean floor... Littered with fused masonry and bitter memories that cry out... Revenge! REVENGE!!"
(from Fantastic Four #6)
#3. DOCTOR DOOM: "Greetings my crusading friends... To those of you who are still alive to hear these words, I can tell you that we are near the close of this little journey... But before I part with your delightful company, I shall set your building on a collision course with the sun... Which I am certain will receive you... warmly! if you will forgive my little jest!"
(from Fantastic Four #6)
#4. GALVATRON: "Ultra Magnus! I'll tear off your head and rip the power core from the twitching husk of your corpse!"
(from Transformers UK #87)
(It's awesome because he means it.)
#5. RANDOM SOLDIER: "A nuclear bomb strapped to his back!! I still can't believe it!"
(from Fantastic Four #4)
#6. THE MIRACLE MAN: "I, THE MIRACLE MAN, DECLARE WAR ON THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE! I INTEND TO CONQUER THE EARTH!"
(from Fantastic Four #2)
#7. MARY JANE WATSON-PARKER: "And these are bees and wasps controlled by a dead Nazi scientist's reanimated skeleton!"
(from Sensational Spider-Man vol. 2 #30)
Yeah, I know, it's more than five. Five wasn't enough to contain the awesomenicity. You may also notice that there is a proliferation of exclamation points in these quotes. It is a fact that anything worth saying must be said with exclamation points - preferably multiple exclamation points!!!
The list will keep growing - stay tuned for more quotes from the literary greats, guaranteed to cover any situation you can think of!

"Muahaha, prepare to meet the ultimate superhero you have longed for since your earthly inception. Muahahaha".
I think that beats the soldier one.
