CYCLOPS: RACIST?

OK, you all probably know Cyclops. Uptight leader of the X-Men, always making time with Wolverine's girl, all of that. He's a usually a decent guy, you know, when he's not abandoning his wife and child to run off with his ex-lover returned from the dead. But what are his views on the people of the Middle East in these troubled times?

Bloody hell. No wonder the X-Men have never achieved equality for mutants.

Cyclops *can* be a jerk. I love the character, but he really is a dick most of the time.

t's just rare (or should I say unique) that he's a racist dick. And it's not like this happened in an obscure comic - this is right at the beginning of the acclaimed Roy Thomas/Neal Adams X-Men run. It left me quite stunned, I must say.

Another hilarious racial slur from the X-Men is the issue when Storm goes to Harlem to get back in touch with her American roots. Wolverine's patroling around to make sure nothing happens to her and he thinks to himself, "I'll take out any buck dumb enough to get in my way." Ah, yes, he's such a sensitive and poetic soul underneath that gruff, homicidal exterior...
