The Greatest Sentence Ever
September 29th 2006 11:20
I may just have read the greatest words ever printed in the English language, courtesy of Sensational Spider-Man vol. 2 #30:
"And these are bees and wasps controlled by a dead Nazi scientist's reanimated skeleton."
It combines my unmatched fear of bees with my unmatched love of reanimated Nazis, and I shall cherish it forever.
The sentence, for those of you not versed in The Classics, refers to the Swarm, an old-school Spider-Man villain who first appeared in Champions #14.
Consulting the ever-useful Master List, we find that Fritz von Meyer was an expatriate Nazi scientist, who discovered South American bees mutated by exposure to a meteorite. He attempted to control them with a psionic beam, but they consumed his body before he could control them. He eventually achieved a mental field around his skeleton in which he could form a giant swarm and control the bees.
Awesome.
****
In other news, it's been rumoured that Robert Downey Jr. will be playing alcoholic superhero Iron Man. That's actually pretty cool. Downey can act, and he's got the requisite experience for those scenes of Tony knocking back the martinis. I'm not so keen on it visually, but it does give me the inspiration for a fun game. Downey's an ex-alcoholic, playing Iron Man an ex-alcoholic. What other superheroes can we match up with actors who share their real-life vices?
OK, easy one first. Daredevil's blind. So we get... Stevie Wonder!
I'm out of inspiration for this tonight, but I'll try and come up with some more in a few days time. Give me some ideas if you can think of any!
