THE HULK: MURDERER?

February 18th 2007 14:34
There are a number of comic creators who insist that the Hulk has never killed anybody. It's been a topic of debate over the years, with many old-school creators saying that it just isn't possible. The newer creators, reasoning that the Hulk has gone berserk through every small town in the American midwest, say that he must have.

I present to you this piece of evidence:

Jack Kirby, Incredible Hulk #3

Yeah. That guy is pretty much screwed.

Nathan ...

This:

Yeah. That guy is pretty much screwed.

I'll visit more often, man ...

It's not like I don't like comics ... Love them ... but there's only so much time in a day ... Waking up in the middle of the night helps ... no distractions ... time to indulge in the things I don't have (or make) time to do during the day ...

I'm curious as to whether you've ever done a Post on The Phantom ... If you have? Can you direct me to it? ... If you haven't? Any chance? ...

Like Mr Hyde the Hulk is the insane alta ego of a basically good man. So I would class him as criminally in sane and not resposible for his actions.

If they didn't show the guy landing one could fanwank some bafflegab about landing in a pile of hay or somesuch. True the Hulk does tend to give the local insurance adjusters nightmares, but then again traditionally he tends to go up against super types who can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.

David - Sorry, no Phantom posts, and no likelihood of any in the future. It's not a character I've read much of. Although, doesn't he wear a skull ring and then punch guys so hard that the it imprints on their face? That's totally awesome.

Damo - hey, criminal insanity is actually quite plausible in this case. Bruce Banner has been diagnosed as suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. As for Mr. Hyde, I think he'd have a tougher time of it given that he regularly injects himself with the Hyde serum *on purpose*.

Francis - No, the best thing about this scene is that we never do see that guy land. Where did he go? What happened to him? Did he make it all the way into outer space? Maybe he did land in a pile of hay. Perhaps he was implausibly rescued by Turner D. Century on his flying bicycle? We'll never know.

I guess we just assumed, as kids, that the villains were just badly beaten up, and would shake it all off...
